Seed Starting

Do you start your own seeds?  If not why not?  This is a really simple process!  Here is a video of our seed starting system on the construction of our seed starting light frame as well as our seed starting table!  Our light frame is made out of inexpensive pvc pipe and the table was made using scrap plywood on top of an existing dresser.  This is easy you can do it!!

  1. This is fantastic. I have been the lone urban gardener in my neighborhood for ll years and and now I know there is a whole network of us.

Plus! You guys are good. You know what you are talking about.

    • Well Carol we have done a lot of research but we are also not afraid to say that we don’t know it all! But you can be sure that anything that we put out to you all has been researched and either tested by us or by another reputable group! We are really glad to have you here! We look forward to adding your garden if possible!

    • Thanks so much for your kind words, Carol! I don’t really know what I’m talking about until I actually talk about it. :) My goal is to be informed before I inform! Thanks so much for including us on GardenRant.com!

  2. This is a great project and website! I look forward to watching how it unfolds.

Your coop is coming along nicely, and you’ve probably finished it at this point, so my comment will be moot. But I have to say that using a 1 x 2, even rounded off, is going to hurt the chickens’ feet and they might avoid it. A better size option would be something round, at least 1.5″ in diameter. You want them to be able to spread their weight over their feet (and cover their feet with their feathers in the winter) without putting any intense pressure on one point of their feet. We used a decent sized branch from a fruit tree and that has worked out quite well. I’ve seen recommendations to use a 2 x 4″, rounded off, with the narrow side up. That will be sturdier and provide them a comfortable perch. 4 full-grown chickens are going to weigh at least 20 lbs.

Anyway, carry on and good luck.

  3. Thanks for these great videos! Can’t wait to see the next installment on the chicken coops. I’m looking to build one for myself soon and love the 4′x4′ design. Can’t wait to see your chooks!

  4. Do you have Chicken Coop 3 of 4 and 4 of 4 available yet. Great job by the way.

    Peace

    Lee
